Midland Senior and U20 Champs

Sunday 17th June saw the annual Midland Chanpionships take place at Alexander Stadium for Seniors and U20. Entries and standards were up for the first time in years, which was great to see.

Tipton's only victory came the U20 Men's 1500m where new member Dan Cotterill took the field on from the start to gain a big lead on the first lap which he held onto to win a well deserved gold medal. Other medallists in the U20 cateory were Kerry Passmore in the pole vault with a silver and a 3.10m vault and Mike Holden with another silver in the 2000m steeplechase.

The senior women's only medal came from Melinda Cooksey with a second place in the 100m in 11.84. There were two more silvers and a bronze for the senior men. Tom Holden had a great battle on the last lap with Gary Davenport to just be pipped in the 1500m. It was two medals in the 5000 for Tipton with Phil Hinch and Martin Williams pushing the eventual winner all the way.

Some of the other comptetitors were Laura Cox in the U20W 400m who came seventh in the final. Steve Horton got through to the final in both the 100 and 200 for senior men. Mike Buntin was seventh in the final of the seniors 1500m. Mitchell Simms and Martin Cherrington were 4th and 5th respectively in the senior and U20 high jumps.
