Cross Country Season Under Way

Birmingham and Midlands womens league got underway at Senneleys Park yesterday.  Incorporated this year was the Birmingham Cross Challenge, which replaces the usual UK challenge.

Jella Verwer was one of the star performers of the day.  Tucking in on 3rd spot with a lap to go, he kicked away in the final descent down to the finish, to claim his most notable victory to date.  Coached by Tiptons co mens team manager Matt Lockett, he showed a turn of speed his coach would like to possess!

The mens team took a surprising win considering a number of regular first team absentees.  Leading the scorers was Mark Dalkins, closely followed by a fast finishing Mike Buntin who was leaping like a gazelle over the stream crossing. ( NB On a sombre note, all at Tipton would like to send best wishes to Mike in recovering from the group Sunday run today.  A dejected Mike was found wondering round Wombourne having being dropped by the pack following an injection in pace from young Mike Holden,  he was chewing on grass for carb intake and mumbling like a mad man.  Fortunately a caring passer by was able to give him a lift back.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery)

Dan Cotterill had a great run closing in the scoring six after sharing the lead with Chris Davies for a while.
