National Cross Country Preview

This year’s National Cross-Country Champs are coming up this Saturday 23rd February at Alton Towers, Staffordshire. The course promises to be “mainly meadowland with some hilly terrain”, which I think we can take to mean it should be a good test. The U17 girls gained a bronze medal at the Midland Champs and so should be looking to do well. Dan Cotterill was out highest placed individual at the Midlands and so will be looking to continue this season’s good form.

More info on the venue can be found at

The Senior Men obviously have a massive tradition in this event – the last medal though was at Cofton Park in 2005. After a season where the team has struggled with injuries we’ll just be looking to see some improvement – some good news is the return to racing of Martin Williams and Matt Lockett to bolster the team. Phil Nicholls has been struggling with an ankle injury and is looking unlikely for Saturday, although we’re still hopeful. Let’s hope that Phil can shake it off and figure at the sharp end of the inter-counties.
