Silver for Nicholls and McLeod

Ryan McLeod and Phil Nicholls picked up silver medals from this weekends Aviva UK Championships / World Trials at Alevander Stadium, Birmingham. 

Harriers had 4 athletes competing with Melinda Cooksey (200m) and Martin Williams (10,000m).

Nicholls picked up the first medal of the weekend in the 10,000m final on Friday night. After a mile into the race with Nicholls leading Andy Vernon kicked hard for a lap in 64sec to break the field and was never troubled from there to take gold in 28.43.  Nicholls lead the chasing group and was strong enough to hold them all off running 29.22 for silver.  Martin Williams was further back making his debut at the champs and the distance running 29.50 for 10th.

Mel Cooksey competed in the 200m and finished 3rd in the 200m semi final in 24.38secs, just missing out in a place in the final.

McLeod was the star turn of the Harriers over the weekend, always in contention in the front pack in the 5000m, he showed inpressive speed endurance when a breakaway group covered the the last kilometre  in 2min35sec and just missed gold by 1 sec running a big personal best in the process in 13min58sec.

Jelle Verwer set a big PB finishing 4th at English Schools 1500m.  He clocked 3.52.00 missing bronze by 0.2 second.  Jelle is now ranked 14th in the UK Under 20 rankings for 1500m.
