Birmingham and Mid Womens Lge, Round 2

From Bob Lynch:

The ladies were with the Tipton men at Birchfield for this event. Although they couldn’t match the men’s superb result, they did manage an improvement over the Leamington leg.

We had (left to right) Cath, Amie, Sophie, Michelle, Orsolina and Jo – a good turnout considering the weather, injuries, illnesses etc.  The course was challenging; mushy underfoot with the snow melting but all the girls managed to finish the four miles. Not the best of conditions and it turned out to be a bit of a slog.

Star turns were Jo and Amie.  Jo, despite a long lay-off through injuries etc, managed 27th in a very strong field.  Amie came in at   36th, which was a whole 30 places higher than last time!  Sophie (back from Cardiff for the day and not at her fittest) was the third counter in 60th with Cath just one place behind. Michelle was close on their heels at 67th and Orsolina, who really specialises in long distance road running, was 153rd. Overall, the team knocked 46 places off their Leamington total. So, well done them!

The next women’s race will be 15 Jan 2011 at Wyken Croft Park, Coventry.

Round two of the Birmingham Cross Coutry League saw the leading three finishers repeat their previous placings with Jean Ndayisenga and Biniam Ande of Birchfield taking the top two spots and Phil Hinch once again in third.  Superb performances from Josh Lilly in 4th, Jelle Verwer in 8th, Mike Aspinall 9th, Ian Rawlinson 11th and Rich Kay in his club debut in 19th ensured a win for Tipton, closing the score on 54 points with Coventry 2nd on 69 points and Birchfield 3rd on 145 points. In the overall standings Tipton are now up to 2nd place behind Coventry with two fixtures remaining.
