Staffordshire XC Champs (05/01/2013)

Tipton's athletes had a good day out at nearby Aldersley Stadium in Wolverhampton for the Staffordshire County Cross Country Championships.  Team medals for both Under 13 and Under 15 girls,  and stars of the day were the under 17 men's trio of Joe Fairfax (10), Jacob Anson (6) and Luke Vine(5) who captured the team title ahead of Cannock & Stafford and Wolves & Bilston.

The 1.05pm 6 km race had the Ladies’ U17, U20, Senior and Vets all running together.  We had just Lauren Evans (U20), Sue Davies, Cath Holden and Sophie Lynch but with three to count in the Seniors (including U20’s) there was a safety margin. Very soggy course but we had warm and dry weather with some sunshine later.  The girls reported that the course was tiring even though relatively flat.

In the event, nobody fell over and all four finished, with Sophie in a pleasing 11th (10th Senior) followed by Cath 20th, Sue 27th and Lauren 45th. Lauren got 7th in the U20 and the team came 4th, behind Trentham, Wolves & Bilston and Staffs Moorlands.

There were also bronze medals for the senior men, and silver for the vets

Thanks to Bob Lynch and Keith Fairfax for the reports and photos.
