Silver for Women at Midland XC (26/01/2013)

On a very challenging course at Stafford Common today, the Senior Women managed a turnout of eight runners and had amazing success. Not only did Sarah Hood achieve a very comfortable second place on a course that managed to be both muddy and icy at the same time but Claire Jacobs came in just two places behind in fourth.

With Julie Caddick (nursing a hamstring injury) getting 43rd and Kate Williams close behind in 45th, the four Tipton counters obtained a total of 94 which was equal to the winning team’s score. Unfortunately, the way the placings lay meant that Birchfield got the decision.

Not far behind Kate were Sophie Lynch, Cath Holden, Sue Davies and Penny Barber.  All judged the course which was covered in mushy snow as very difficult and slippy.  Some runners seemed to cope with the conditions better than others but even the leaders had difficulty in picking a way across the very uneven surface.

In the mens race a depleted team still managed 4th place in the team competition.  Ian Mitchell was running strongly in 4th place for much of the race, but lost a shoe on the final lap.  Unable to put it back on, he battled on finishing 11th, with Matt Granger in 13th.
