RIP Roger Walters (12/08/2013)

It is with great sadness that we record the recent death of one of our early members Roger Walters. Roger was a supreme young sprinter with the club in the early 1960's. He won many Schools and Staffordshire sprint titles whilst a Tipton Harrier. He ran both indoors and out and was also seen at least once competing over cross country during the winter of 1964!

He went on to join Wolverhampton & Bilston (with our very best wishes) around 1966 to further his athletic development & career which he did with great success gaining national and international experience. He continued to win many more awards at county, area and national level. After his primary competitive athletic career finished he moved into coaching where he again met with great success.

He loved athletics and, in the build up to the centenary in 2010, helped us with contributions to the club's historical research recalling his times with Tipton with great enthusiasm and fondness. The world of Black Country athletics has lost a great servant. Our thoughts are with his family & friends at this time. Tribute & Report & AW

Update 15/08/2013 - We understand that the funeral will take place on Friday 23rd August at 2.15pm at the Tipton Green Methodist Church.
