At the English Schools Athletics Championships held at the Gateshead International Stadium on July 10/11th Tipton Harriers junior sprinter Nicholas Walsh reached the final of the Senior Boys 100m to finish 7th in a time of 11.18 secs. He won Heat 1 in 11.20 secs. and finished 2nd in Heat 2, in 11.22 secs., beaten narrowly by the bronze medallist in the final. To reach the final of an English Schools event is a fine performance. He follows several outstanding Tipton sprinters including John Southall in the 1960's and Luke Davis in 1996 who won the Intermediate Boys 100m in a National Schools best performance time of 10.44 secs. He went on to win the European Boys 100m.
