Senior Cross Country Leagues (09/11/2015

Tom Holden reports,

The now traditional Birmingham League opener at Leamington, was preceded by a week of torrential rainfall. Given Newbold Comyns ability to cut up at the first drop of moisture, the course was what can only be described as a mud bath. The hill was as steep as ever and very slippy. The ditch turned into a swamp and had rotten apples floating on the surface. Then Luke Vine phoned to say his Fan Belt had exploded on the motorway and he wasn't going to make it. Hmmm. The race was action packed. On lap 1 there was some bloke on a bike who decided to cut straight in front of the leaders. Not satisfied, he turned around came back and started swinging his bike at the mainfield. A quick witted Ian Williams ducked as he went past only for the bike to strike a hapless Paul Ward from Telford who was next to him (Hopefully the bike guy gets whats coming to him). Many went flying in the ditch. Here's an excellent video link to prove it Lap 3 Video - 4 mins in is my favourite. There are loads of excellent pics from Dave on our Facebook page if you haven't seen them already. The team finished 8th overall, but we were only a few points behind the top 5, and given that we were missing a fair few of our big guns for various reasons I'm confident we will be challenging the podium before the seasons out.
