Staffordshire XC Championships (05/01/2020)

Vicky Charlton provided us with this report on Saturday's racing.

"The first cross country of the year took us to Betley Court Farm, a new venue only used once for cross country before. The weather was kind to us, blue skies, perfect racing weather.

First race was the under 13 girls and boys competing over a distance of 3.2km. We only had one under 13 girl, Lily Packer, who finished 18th overall in a very competitive field. In the boy’s race, Klay Fellows was a fantastic 2nd. Tom Lucas 5th after recovering from illness over Christmas. Will Evans 6th also recovering from illness. Elliott Boden 13th and Mark Aston 22nd. The team obtained a silver medal, finished second overall by one point, congratulations on this fantastic achievement.

Next was the under 15 girls and boys doing a slightly longer race of 4.2km. First for Tipton in 3rd place with a strong run was Jade Charlton, 5th Rosa Shadforth-Groucutt, closely followed by Jessie Walker in 6th. An impressive run from Amelia Harrison in 17th place. Sophie Banks 21st. Mia Woodward 22nd. The girls team obtained a silver medal, missing out on gold by one point. Well done girls. For the under 15 boys, a strong run from Ben Lucas in 9th place, Cameron Lomax in 11th, returning after illness and Sam Richards in 21st in his first ever cross country for Tipton Harriers. Team finished 4th overall.

Finally, under 17 women and men competing on a race distance of 6km. Holly Graham finished in 9th place, followed by Katie Bevan in 14th and Isobel Eagle in 15th. Team finished 4th overall. Well done. A brilliant run by Tom Bentley saw him finish in 2nd place, Lynden Hunt in 8th, Alex Parker 10th and Michael Banks in 14th. Team finished 2nd overall, fantastic running.

This was a fantastic day for our juniors, achieving 2 individual silvers, one individual bronze and 3 team silver medals. 8 athletes have now qualified to represent the county on 7th March with others in reserve places. Well done to everyone who competed."
