Throwback Thursday (20/10/2016)

As we head towards the 2016/17 cross country season with the cross country relays on Saturday we have recently found a copy of a fixture list for when we were the Tipton "Branch" of Birchfield Harriers dating from 1905. Tipton Harriers were formed as a unique entity from the "Branch" in 1910.

What strikes us is the shear number of runs & fixtures arranged. Bearing in mind many of the runners would have had jobs that entailed them working on Saturday morning up until lunchtime it makes you wonder how they fitted everything in!

It also sheds new light on one of our earlier training venues, the Cross Inn on Park Lane, Tipton.  This preceeds the Waterloo Inn which was our HQ when we formed in 1910.

According to renowned local Tipton historian Keith Hodgkins "the Cross was at No.7 Park Lane West just below the Methodist Church on the same side. It closed in 1929 but the building survived until the late 1960's or very early 1970's."
