Mel Cooksey makes AAA 100m Final
Written by Mike Buntin

Mel Cooksey had a superb weekend at the AAAs Champs in Birmingham last weekend. She ran a pb in the 100m heats with 11.79 to take her through to the semis where she ran 11.86 to finish fourth and qualify for the final the next day where Mel ran 11.92 for 8th.

Also having qualified through the 200m heats  with 24.27 Mel then proceeded to run 24.37 in the semi-final for a dead heat in 4th place. Not being able to split the two athletes mean that Mel was massively unluckly to miss out on her second final by a coin toss.

Our other representative at the weekend was Phil Nicholls in the 5000m. Unfortunately Phil had been struggling the week leading up to the event and wasn't able to perform like he can. Still putting himself on the line he came 10th with 14.11.

The club defintely has more athletes capable of making the AAAs and they'll hopefuly be pushing to make the step up and we'll see them there next year.

Tipton Needs You! Save us from Relegation!

Mens and Women Final Track League Match, Sunday 3rd August, Tipton Sports Academy

This is a rallying call for all athletes, particularly field eventers, sprinters, coaches and track officials

The final league match takes place on Sunday 3rd August.  Tipton currently stand bottom of the table and face relegation to Division 4!  We are in this position due to us not being able to field full team in the events particularly in womens side, and mens field and sprint type events.  The general standard is not great and we have the ability to win the final league match if we have a commitment from athletes to turn out and compete.  It is in our hands!

We are club with the calibre of athlete, to be participating in the British League let alone the lower divisions of the Midland League.

If we stay up next year we have the prospect of taking on Wolves and Bilston, Telford AC and Birmingham Rowheath in Division 3 which will mean more local venues to compete and less travelling.

Everyone is encouraged to attend and compete/support help Tipton achieve the Great Escape!

Link to the timetable of the day is here:

Tom Hinton was only 0.02s away from a bronze medal with a tremendous 4th place in the U17 Mens 400m with 49.43. Jack Imray came came 7th in his heat (51.41) of the same event.
Sadie Forrester-Hayles was 5th in her heat of the Junior Girls 100m in 13.04 but also came away withan excellent gold medal in the sprint relay for West Mids Schools. Chad Rhodes was reserve in the Hammer and Jelle Verwer was 5th in his heat of the U17 Mens 800m.
Great to see a number of Tipton athletes making it to the Schools, well done to all.
