Tipton avoided the drop in the last League match of the season held at Tipton on Sunday August 3rd. Tipton finished 2nd overall in the match and with DASH and Corby finishing 6th and 4th, it was enough to overhaul our bottom position and avoid relegation. Tipton now have the prospect of facing some local clubs next year with Wolves and Bilston, Telford and Birmingham Rowheath all in the same division. Everybody pulled together ensuring all events were covered with some good performances particularly encouraging coming from Tiptons Juniors showing they are more than a match for the seniors. Some of the notable performances were the mens 4 x 100m relay where John Timmins in about 4th or 5th place going into the last 100m overhauled the leaders with a storming last 100m to win. John Millington ran a pb of 8.28 in 3000m with an impresive last 1500m to secure victory. 17 year old Jelle Verwer won both the 800m and 1500m 'A' races in 1.56 and 4.06 with impressive sprint finishes. Full results to follow. |

Mel Cooksey makes AAA 100m Final |

Mel Cooksey had a superb weekend at the AAAs Champs in Birmingham last weekend. She ran a pb in the 100m heats with 11.79 to take her through to the semis where she ran 11.86 to finish fourth and qualify for the final the next day where Mel ran 11.92 for 8th. Also having qualified through the 200m heats with 24.27 Mel then proceeded to run 24.37 in the semi-final for a dead heat in 4th place. Not being able to split the two athletes mean that Mel was massively unluckly to miss out on her second final by a coin toss. Our other representative at the weekend was Phil Nicholls in the 5000m. Unfortunately Phil had been struggling the week leading up to the event and wasn't able to perform like he can. Still putting himself on the line he came 10th with 14.11. The club defintely has more athletes capable of making the AAAs and they'll hopefuly be pushing to make the step up and we'll see them there next year. |
