Indoor athletes in action again


Midland U17\U15 Indoor Track and Field Championships, NIA, Birmingham 9th Feb 08

16 year old Tom Hinton of Tipton Harriers won Gold over 400m at Midland Indoor Championships, Under 17s category. His time was 50.55secs.  He qualified for the final earlier in the day through the heats with a time of 50.45 seconds, a personal best which places him 2nd in the UK rankings for 2008 for his age group. Tom is just starting his 2nd season in athletics after his parents took him to Tipton after spotting his speed whilst playing football.

Tipton's other competitor on day 1 was Sophie Timmins who finished 8th in the U15G High Jump with a pb and 12th in the Long Jump. Day two saw Manzu-Lyn Cain finish an excellent 4th in the U17 800m Final in 2.06 and there was another fourth place for Sadie Forrester-Halyes in the U15 girls 60m final.

UK Indoor Championships and World Indoor Trials, Sheffield, Feb 9th 2008

Tipton sprinter Melinda Cooksey, age 23 years continued her fine winter indoor form.  She was competing at UK indoor championships and World Indoor Championship Trials at Sheffield on the same weekend.  Mel qualified for the final and finished a creditable 5th in 24.53 seconds.  Mel doubled and competed in the 60m and qualified through the heats before finishing 7th in the semi final in 7.72 secs.  Mel currently ranks 7th in the 2008 UK rankings.
