West Mids YA XC Weddington 18 Jan 2009

The youngsters travelled to Nuneaton for this the January meeting. It's always muddy at Weddington but this year it excelled itself! Add to that the normal ditches and steep banks and you have a very challenging course.  Our lads and lasses coped with it well however and there were some good individual performances.

In the U11 Girls, Chloe Barker came 15th and Isher Mander had her first top-20 finish.  Good progress there girls. Able support came from Lauren Phillips, Charlotte Mould, and Daniella Sedgley who all counted towards the team score.

Ailish Craig ran doggedly to come 10th in the U13 Girls and she is now 5th overall. Good performances also from Hayleigh Wright, Chloe Hingley, Heidi Shaw, Sophie Hill and Katie Lewis.

The U15 girls were hit hard by illness and injury but well done to the only Tipton runner, Lauren Evans.

The U17 women continue to shine, in 3rd  place overall and just 3 points behind RSC.  Sophie Lynch and Katie Harper both bounced back this month to get 4th and 5th place individually.  Sophie Ward got top 20 and there were good runs too from Megan Collins and Nat Davies.

In the U11 boys, Chris Davies slipped a bit to 15th this time but is still 7th overall. He was well supported by Gareth Johnson, Elliot Jones, Kieran Marsh and Luke Bodin.

The U13 boys could not manage a full team this time but well done to the four that ran, Luke Vine, Dan Owen, Jacob Anson and Mitchell Turner.

U15 Matt Davies had by far his best run this season to finish 16th, well done. Adam Stator in his first run got a creditable 24th with Jordan Drummond just one second behind in 25th. George Duckworth and Tom Hammond were the other two and very important counters. The lads are currently lying 3rd overall but Tamworth are breathing down their necks in 4th. They need a solid performance in the final race next month with every runner possible turning out.

The U17 lads race was an endurance test.  Three laps including 6 ditches and 12 banks not for the faint-hearted.  We had five finishers and all in the top half. Sam Davies was first Tipton home in 18th with Lee Whitehouse, Jon Hunt and Matt Rice close behind. By far Lee's best race this season and a cracking finish.  Manzi Cain found it hard to use his speed but held on well for 27th.

The final race (1st March) is at Perry Park.  Not too far to travel and Tipton usually does well there
