Birmingham Lge XC Gloucester, Women at Stafford

Sat 14th Feb saw the final fixtures for the senior men and women in the Birmingham League and Midland Women's league respectively. The men were in fourth place going into the fixture a long way behind Coventry in first but right behind the two Universities. Plock Court hadn't grown any hills over the last year and was as flat as a pankcake but was also pretty muddy. Hinchy led the team home in 9th, having deliberately used it as a training run and coming through the field from around 100th at the start. Run of the day was Jonny Millington with a great 12th place and his best run on the country to date, great to see John make another step forward. Martin Williams came in 14th after sliding all over the course and taking a big dunking in the water at the bottom of the course, just as John was closing in.

Dan Cotterill and James Ratcliffe were 22nd and 23rd, with really good runs. Hopefully they'll continue to improve and make a difference to the team over the next couple of years. The mighty Mike Hager once again made the count with his highest finish of the season in 29th place. That gave us a total of 109 for second place on the day. We easily beat Loughborough but weren't quite able to overhaul Birmingham, finishing just 3 points being them and in third place. Overall a solid result throughout the season, but we should be gunning for more next year. We want that big shield back in Tipton hands.

The women were racing over at Stafford Common and they once again raced extremely well to build on their bronze at the Midlands. Lynne led the team with 10th place, followed by Kate 15th, Cath 17th and Amie 20th. Also great to see Michelle Stephens in 38th place. The women are really getting things together which is great to see and they seem to be swapping places each week, which can only be good to drive them on. Consistent results have been brillient and the team finished third on the day and third overall - first club behind the two very strong universities.
