Tipton improve at 2nd Young Athletes XC League match 13 Nov

Last Sunday saw the League move to Aldersley where Wolves & Bilston hosted the meeting.  Weather coolish and overcast but no rain. Ground good to soft and a new course layout which was a real improvement over the old one. Not only was it better for the runners, it gave spectators a chance to follow the action in several places round the course.

Tipton had a good turnout with full teams in all 8 races.

First off were the U11 girls, running just one lap - fast and furious. Tipton had a bumper entry of 9 girls in this race – excellent!   Rosa Lewis was the first counter in 22nd place, closely followed by Amelia Caddick in 25th.  The other three to count were Megan Whincup, Rae Nicholls and Emily Jane Riley. Good support provided by Jessica, Tia. Erin and Cerys.

Second race was the U17 lasses. This is quite often a difficult race to fill but we were well served by Lauren Evans, Charlotte Finney in and Lara Tipper with Lauren first counter in 20th place. Lauren.

George Duckworth on his way to 10th place in the U17 lads.
has had a growth spurt recently which can affect performance but she seems to have come through it well.

Then came the U11 boys – again just one lap and Tipton managed to field 9 runners Well done them!  First counter was Ben Prince in 15th place – a full three places better than in the previous race.  The other counters were Daniel Quinn in 21st place, Rhys Cope, Richard Lewis, and Adam Bodin.  Oliver Evans and Kyle Pearson came in hot on Adam’s heels and we must not forget Lewis Moreton and Reece McJanet who also ran well.  The team achieved our highest place – 3rd.  Excellent!

Back to the girls again for the fourth race – U15 and a really competitive field.  We had our best individual result in this race with Ailish Craig showing her class by again securing 6th place. The other counters were Sophie Harling, Chloe Hingley, Sophie Hill and Maisie Duckworth.  Natalie Smallman and Lauren Moreton were not far behind.

Fifth race was the U13 boys 1.5 miles where we had Chris Davies as first Tipton finisher in 11th – better by one place over October.  Luke Bodin secured 21st place by a fine run and they were ably supported by George Holden, Connor Harrison, Owen Lubkowski and Daniel Lander.

The U13 girls also did 1.5 miles. This was a fast-looking race and very impressive was Isher Mander who ran her heart out, gaining 13th place - a massive 19 places better than last time.  We had 14 lasses in this race – more than in any other age group.  All ran well.  The other counters were Charlotte Mould, Beth Sheppard, Chloe Barker and Alexis Probin.  Congratulations too to Beth, Amelia, Marianne, Emma, Georgia, Lauren, Emily, Tara and Daniella.. Overall, the Tipton team came 4th.

Near the end now and the U15 boys did battle over two miles. U15 is a very competitive age group in the lads and we did well to get a highest place of 31st  (Jacob Anson). This was a stunning comeback for Jacob – an amazing improvement over the last race. Jack Caddick, Luke Vine, Joseph Fairfax and Daniel Evans were the other counters. All ran well.

Finally we had the U17 lads’ 3 miles. As usual, a real slog with the very talented runners staying close together for about half the race but stringing out towards the end.  Our star here was George Duckworth who showed true grit in hanging on well to the leaders for most of the race and dropping off only slightly at the end. Tenth place this time compared to 18th last and more than a minute closer in time to the winner.  Tom Hammond also had a much better race than before, coming in second counter at 47th.with Matt Davies just one place behind and Adam Evans one place behind him.  Matt showed real courage – halfway round the first lap he looked about to expire but he kept going and actually seemed to be going faster at the end.

All in all, a good effort from the Tipton runners and encouraging progress being shown. Next race (Dec 12) is in Bromsgrove. We really must put a good team out again. All you youngsters, please make sure you are available to race.  Your club needs you!
