Midland 5 and 7 XC - Aldersley

From Bob Lynch:

Late illness meant that the Tipton Ladies team for the Midlands 5 miler Cross Country was incomplete but that didn’t stop Sue Street, Julie Caddick and Michelle Stevens all putting in really good performances. Sue managed an excellent 6th place and distance wise; she wasn’t far off a medal. Julie came in a creditable 21st and Michelle not far behind in 24th.

It was a lovely bright day but bitterly cold with the ground hard and bumpy. About 50 women set off for the one small lap followed by two large ones. Sue was immediately in the leading group with Julie and Michelle always well placed. Thanks to the rather imaginative course layout, the runners were easy to follow for all the race. At least running round following them kept the spectators warm!

Sue steadily moved steadily up the field and at one time was in 5th place, only to be passed just before the finish. Julie and Michelle held their positions almost from the start and both ran strongly throughout. Sue has made amazing progress recently and is now a real force to be reckoned with.

This is the first time in recent years that Tipton Ladies have contested the event. All three enjoyed it so coughs and colds permitting, we should have a full team next year.

In the Midland XC events at Wolverhampton Sue Street was 6th in the Senior Ladies with Julie Caddick 21st and Michelle Stevens 24th.

Martin Williams placed 2nd in this Senior Men's event. The team gained 3rd place consisting of - Martin Williams (2nd), Malcolm Eustace (13th), Dean Hill (18th), Mark Wright (21st), Paul Rogers (26th) & Chris McCarthy (35th). Also present were Stuart Male (58th) and Loz Heathcock (91st) .
