Nicholls 18th and Mcleod 27th at Euro Cross!!

Phil Nicholls ran an absolutely tremendous race out in Albufeira today. On what looked to be a hard, fast course Phil set off back in the pack but still close to the front in terms of time. Ryan was slightly more to the fore and after about a mile it was Ryan in 19th and Phil in 33rd. After 2 laps Phil had moved up slightly to 27th and Ryan was in 22nd. At halfway Phil was right on the back of the lead group in 18th place just as the leaders began to gather and watch each other. Ryan was holding together well as fourth Brit.

As the boot was put in by the leaders the field really spread out and Phil moved up to be briefly the first Brit as he went past fellow midlander Tom Humphries. Ryan had dropped back slightly but was still having a great run. By the finish Phil had consolidated 18th and second Brit, whilst Ryan was a great third Brit in 29th place. Phil and Ryan were fifth and sixth selections for the team after the trials two weeks ago so to be 2nd and 3rd counters at the Champs is superb. This was Phil and Ryan's first runs in the Senior European Champs and was great to see two Tipton Harriers representing GB!
