Senior Cross Country Leagues (10/11/2012)

There was a good turn out of six starters by the Tipton Ladies today although some top runners were missing.  The new course layout seemed to be appreciated by the teams – it looked slightly shorter than before. The weather was good but the ground was saturated. This made it a gruelling test with runners still on the course 45 minutes after the start.

Penny Barber had a baptism of fire with this, her first ever cross-country race and came in with a creditable 131st place in the massive field (you can tell Penny in the photos, she’s the one with the new, clean shoes). Star performance was Julie Caddick who finished 22nd against some very strong opposition.  Second Tipton finisher was Amie Fithern in 43rd place and third was Kate Williams in 60th.  Not far behind Kate was Sue Davies in 74th and Lina Martino came in tired but smiling at 184th. Well done all six ladies. You can also tell Sue in the photos, she’s the one who fell over!

For the men, it was a mixed result.  A fantastic win for Phil Nicholls, even after he took an early tumble negotiating the ditch on the first lap, but only managing 5th place in the team standings.
