Women's XC League (02/12/2012)

The starter described the course as “a bit damp in places” but that was akin to describing World War 1 as “a little disagreement”. It was really muddy all over with some iced-over puddles to boot! It’s the same for everyone though and this race continues to attract a high quality entry.

We couldn’t complain, as there was no rain and even some sunshine. The course was fairly flat and spectator-friendly with parking close in. The girls had two laps to do of a course which had two loops including start and finish in the centre. About 7km in all.

Tipton had seven starters in a large field and halfway round the first lap, we had several runners close to the front. The heavy ground made its mark however and eventually the lasses in green and white fell back slightly. Some good finishing saw all three counters in the top 30.

Tipton ended up with a score of 81, much better than in Race 1 when we got 125. The 81 came from Hayley Jennings in 24th, Amie Fithern in 27th and Julie Caddick in 30th. Not far behind was Sophie Lynch in 36th, followed by Cath Veysey in 41st, Kate Williams in 56th and Sue Davies in 77th, having struggled with a stitch nearly all the race. A good effort from all and a pretty enjoyable afternoon.

Ron Reynolds from Aldridge RC was at the Women's XC League race at Burbage Common yesterday. He took a number of photographs which include some of the Tipton ladies squad. Link

Next Race: 12th Jan Sandwell Valley Park.
