Staffordshire County XC Championships (04/01/2014)

Forty Tipton runners braved the mud of Stafford Common for this years County Cross Country Championships.

Bob Lynch tells the tale of the women's team,

Despite the atrocious weather the country has been seeing across the past couple of weeks, there was only mild rain sprinkling Stafford Common for the AAA Cross Country Championships this weekend.  The recent weather had left its mark though, with the course being very boggy all round.  Despite the tough conditions, it was an impressive performance by the Tipton ladies, with three finishers in the top ten.  Amie Fithern put in an excellent run to finish 2nd, while Sophie Lynch ran strongly to come home in 5th place.  Sue Street rounded off the Tipton team counters in 8th place, with Penny Barber coming home in 27th.  This strong team performance allowed the Tipton Ladies to register a well-deserved 1st place overall, beating City of Stoke A.C. into second place by 8 points.

Elsewhere there were a number of medal winning performances, both individual and team.

The under 13 Girls finished 2nd team with Eve Mulvaney, Holly Sides and Rae Nicholls.  The Under 17 Men finished 1st Team with new member Gareth Griffiths in 3rd place, backed by Chris Davies, Jacob Anson and Connor Harrison packing well in 10th, 11th and 12th places. In the Under 17 Women Isher Mander finished 3rd.  The senior men's team fininsed 2nd team, with Ben Gamble taking individual silver.  The vet men category saw a win for Phil Clamp, leading the team to the win.

Well done to everyone who took part.
