Buxton Half Marathon (24/05/2015)

With Ray Stanier withdrawing though injury it was left to Penny Barber and Bryan Mills to contest this year's Buxton Half Marathon.  This is a race in which Tipton Harriers have previous form, with Andy Wilton having won the race 8 times - 4 times in the colours of Tipton, and 4 times for Staffs Moorlands.  The 13.1 mile loop of the Derybyshire Dales has two significant climbs, from the start to about the 3 mile point, climbing 190 metres, and between 7 miles and 9 miles, a climb of around 140 metres.  In between there are other small climbs, and sharp descents to test quads and calf muscles to their max.

This year it proved a cat and mouse battle between the two Tipton protagonists, Bryan had the strength on the uphills sections, but could not stay in touch with Penny as she careered down the descents. Through the final climb back into Buxton, Bryan made a break and managed to stay a few yards ahead to clock 1:40:32, a place ahead of Penny in 1:40:35.  The spoils however, went to Penny taking the V55 trophy and prize.  If ever a t-shirt told a thousand words - the profile of the route is a prime candidate!
