West Midland Young Athletes XC League (08/12/2015)

Sam Hale reports,

We had a great day on Sunday at our home fixture at Warley Woods for the 3rd meeting of The West Midlands Young Athletes Cross Country League. A team of fabulously committed parents and supporters turned up at Warley Woods before dawn on a wet and wild day to set up the course. And what a course it was, well done to Karl for putting on an interesting and challenging proper cross country course. A massive team of friendly and supportive marshals ensured a great atmosphere. A big thank you to all those who helped. We had both of the new tents and 3 flags which looked very professional. We've had very positive comments from other clubs.
Turnout was good and we had some stand out performances from our young athletes on what became a very muddy course as the day went on.

First up were the Under 17 women with a small field of 40 but fearsome competition. Just 2 runners this time, Rosa Lewis finished in 23rd and Amelia Caddick in 31st both running well.

Next were the under 11 boys, Andrew Bartley was 38th just beating Joseph lewis 39th on the line, great hill running from both boys saw them overtaking all the time on both uphill and down hill sections. It was another good run from Cameron Lomax to finish 83rd with an 11 place improvement from his last place.

As we expect it was a good turnout and great running from our very committed under 11 girls squad. A fantastic run from Navanjot Sandhu saw her finish in 9th. Alex Westbury was hot on her heels finishing 13th with a great improvement of 6 places. Jessie Walker was next 20th, a good run from Jade Charlton saw her pick up places to finish 33rd with a 9 place improvement. Grace Marnell was the last scorer in 48th( 53rd last race), Mya Woodward 60th. Great improvement for Bella Church 90th and Amber Williams 103rd and Amelia Parr 112th . The team was 7th.

The under 15 boys were down to 2 runners. Well done to sprinter Ellis Gayle finishing 77th and not far behind newcomer Stephen Hogan 78th putting in a fine effort..

The Under 13 girls were in amongst the biggest field of the day with 122 runners finishing. It was a great start for Monique Oladujoye who stayed with the lead group for a good part of the race eventually finishing in a very pleasing 29th, Alexia Bennett- Cordy braved the mud again to finish 54th with a great sprint finish up the final hill. Well done Bella Fantom 69th followed by Phoebe Clark 80th. Keeley Haddock ran well in her first race 101st, then came Isobel Eagle with a very committed run, followed by Emily Taylor 110th putting on her Tipton vest for the very first time. Well done Abbie Judge for a strong run to finish 117th and improving all the time.
Team 10th

Fine running from the Tipton Under 13 boys in a tough field of 97. Thomas Bentley was outstanding finishing in 4th and battling for 3rd all the way to the line. A great run saw Alex parker home in 29th, not far behind was Haydn Watson 32nd. Well done to Jack Cunningham on 49th. Lynden Hunt finished 73rd despite picking up an injury and limping over the line. Good to see a full team out finishing 6th.

The Under 15 girls were a force to be reckoned with in the last race of the day. These girls are getting better and better. Savannah Causer and Eve Mulvaney battled it out all around the course with Sav just getting it on the line to finish 11th with Eve 12th. Great running from Rae Nicholls 29th and Bethany Walker 36th. Well done on big improvements this season to Sarah Henderson 41st, Holly Mason 59th, Megan Whincup 61st and Tia Nicholls 65th.
