West Midlands Young Athletes XC League Round 4 (19/01/2016)

Sam Hale reports,

First of all a massive thank you to all athletes and families who turned out at Burbage Common in truly dreadful conditions. Every athlete who ran certainly proved themselves Swift and Eager and showed courage and determination. The course which we expected to be very muddy was also covered with snow and the temperature was barely above freezing all day. So how did we do? We were fabulous!

The day kicked off with a small field of under 17 women but a full team for Tipton, stoic performances from Rosa Lewis on her way back to form finishing 16th( 7 place improvement) and Megan Moore 22nd and running very strongly. Commiserations to Marianne Hughes who had to pull out with a bad back. Team 9th.

Next up were the under 11 boys sadly only 3 out this time but they bravely battled their way round. Well done Andrew Bartley 21st, Joseph Lewis 37th and Cameron Lomax 90th. Strong running from all of you.  Team 11th.

Brian's under 11's were a force to be reckoned with 11 girls sporting the hooped vest. A fabulous run from Alex Westbury saw her finish 8th, not far behind was Navanjot Sandhu 10th. Great running from  Jessie Walker 29th and Jade Charlton 35th,  Grace Marnell 61st, Mya Woodward 62nd, Sophie Banks 95th, Bella Church 98th and Amber Williams 104th. Congratulations and welcome to the team Claire Parker and Millie Jellyman 112th running for us for the very first time. A massive well done to you all. Team 5th.

Andrew Prole was our solo under 15 boy and finished in a creditable 70th position. Well done.
By the time the under 13 girls ran the conditions were even worse. It didn't stop Bella Fantom putting in her best performance of the season to finish 21st, strong running from Monique Oladujoye 53rd, Phoebe Clark 84th, Isobel Eagle 93rd( 12 place improvement), Keeley Haddock 102nd, big improvements from Emily Taylor 103rd and Abbie Judge 105th. Great running girls.
Team 12th

A very cold Thomas Bentley led the under 13 boys in with a fabulous 7th place. Great running from Haydn Watson to crack the top 20 (19th) and Alex Parker in a really consistent 30th. Well done boys.
Team 9th.

The meeting finished with a great under 15 girls race in a sea of freezing mud. Beth Walker was first back for Tipton in 12th place with a magnificent run. Next was Savannah Causer 18th looking very strong, Eve Mulvaney 33rd, stunning performance from Holly Mason 35th( 24 place improvement), Megan Whincup 47th ( 14 place improvement) and Sarah Henderson 66th.
Team 4th.

It was all in all a very good day, to run in those conditions says a lot about your committment and I was very proud of each and every one of you.
