Midland Women's Road Relay Report (03/10/2016)

Team Manager Amie Williams has provided us with her report on the event in Sutton Park.

Tipton ladies had two full teams for this race, a feat which is not often possible! The A team managed to dip inside the top 10 and finished 9th team, whilst the B team finished a credible 63rd out of 82 teams.

The A team was made up of Amie Fithern (now officially Amie Williams after marrying fellow Harrier Ian a few weeks earlier) who was returning after a break over the summer who ran 16:40 for 15th place on the first leg. Second leg was the legendary Penny Barber who whizzed round in 18:01 as a warm up for her Half Marathon in Nottingham the next day! Next up was Sue Davies who smashed her personal best for the course and produced one of her best ever runs to date to run 17:00 minutes dead. She handed over to last leg runner Lynne Hill in 12th place. The ever reliable and fit Lynne made light work of last leg and clocked an impressive 16:56 to bring the team home in 9th place!

The B team was off to a flying start as Claire Hotchkiss stepped up and took on the dreaded first leg, Claire in great shape at the moment sped round in an 18:23 and brought the team back in 37th place. Second leg was Vicky Charlton who got round in an impressive 19:38, Vicky knocked a huge amount of time off from last year’s run so a big well done to Vicky! Sian Reynolds was our third leg counter and whilst hills are not Sian’s favourite type of race she worked hard and ran a solid 24:36. Setting of in last leg was Michaela Duckett, Michaela had been a bit dishearten with her running recently but was pleasantly surprised with her time round Sutton and more so her average minute miles! Michaela brought the team home in 64th place in 25:21.

An awesome effort by all ladies this early in the season, we look forward to the rerun at the national in a weeks’ time!
