Senior Men Season Roundup (20/02/2022)

Tom Holden reports,
13 Tipton Men travelled to Leamington to complete what has been a successful return to competition, following the year’s break due to Covid. Team manager, Tom Holden, had set the ambitious but achievable target of a podium finish, and the lads brought it home, finishing 3rd on the day and 3rd overall. The B Team jumped into 2nd place overall, showing our strength in depth.
Joe Smith had his best run of the season, leading the team home in 5th place. He got out strongly and was battling with his nemesis Ed Banks of Birchfield the whole way round, coming out on top in a sprint finish. Second in for us was Ian Williams in 19th, who for the first time this season, was top Williams, beating Martin into 22nd. Tom Bains and Joe Read chased them in, finishing 27th and 28th respectively. It was a bit of a nervous wait for the 6th counter, but Tom Holden had worked his way through the field up to 56th, pushed all the way by Dom Gardner in 66th (who had his best race of the season). Alvin Karangizi, Tom Acha, Gareth Griffiths, Gary Whitehouse, Zak Karasz made up the B team. Andy Acha had his best placing of the season, but unfortunately still missed the team photo. Sorry Andy!
It was a remarkably consistent season for Tipton, who finished 3rd team in both the A and B at every race. The strength in depth shown in the face of quite a few injuries and unavailabilities will hold us in good stead when it comes to the 12 stage road relays in the spring. Overall, Joe Smith was ranked highest, in 11th. Martin Williams, Ian Williams and Joe Read also placed top 20 in 13th, 19th and 20th respectively. The six ever presents (completing all four races) were Martin Williams, Ian Williams, Joe Read, Tom Holden, Dom Gardner and Andy Acha. Great effort chaps.
